Where do we go next?

Second season in the Sun
by Jasper

Firstly I would just like to offer my condolences to the Fitch family on the recent and sad loss of dear old Jack. The guy was a legend around the club and a true Stute. Home or away, reserves or youths, there was always a very good chance of bumping into him. You could not wish to meet a kinder man. Always in a happy frame of mind and a true gentleman. Rest in peace Jack, I am sure you will be watching over the lads.

Season two in the Premier beckons and some of our detractors are already writing us off as possible relegation candidates. You hear it said often that at this level the second season is more difficult than the first simply because teams become a known quantity. When you think of the Stutes in that context you can possibly understand where we might fit in. A quick long ball out of defence down the wings, long throws, work the free kicks around the box, predicable, and we have heard it all before. Well maybe we have and maybe to an extent that is true but any true Histon regular knows full well that the team are more than that. We have truly savaged some teams over the last couple of seasons and played some marvellous football in the process.

What I want to see this season is Histon mix the play a little more. True, we have to play to our strengths but regulars who have followed the progress of young Danny Wright will have noticed just how much he has improved on the deck with his very powerful runs in and out of the box, turning more than one full back inside out.

He may still have to work on some areas his game a bit, but I for one would not want him running at me. A right handful and a very powerful shot. Couple that with new signing Damien Reeves, Jack Midson and Antonio Murray and we have more than enough skill to worry most defences.
